Turquoise poise!

My hair has been a variety of colors over the years. Red, bright red, dark red, purple, black, brown, blonde, platinum blonde... as you can tell I haven't done much venturing out of this somewhat small range of colors. So, out of the blue (har har), I decided to dye my hair turquoise.

It started a few months ago when I dyed my a natural red color, and I found myself to be bored with the results. I have been dying my hair red for so long that no matter what other color I tried to dye over it, be it brown or purple, it would always revert back to red. Then a few weeks ago, I thought it was time for a more drastic change. It has been two years since my hair was last bleached, and it was done by a professional in a salon. I was nervous about bleaching my hair, but it actually turned out very well! Most of the red was bleached out, and I was relieved. I used Manic Panic's Flash Lightening 40, and it worked out very well!

After a hot shampoo to get the bleach out, I let my hair dry for an hour before I applied the hair dye. I used Manic Panic: Atomic Turquoise, and I left the dye in for nearly five hours. After rinsing with cold water, I was ready to check to see how well it held up... and WOW, it sure did. I have never been able to get my hair to be this brightly colored doing it at home.

Honestly, the only downside will be the extra attention that brightly colored hair brings. It's not too rare to see someone with crazy colored hair, but I definitely don't blend in as much now. Oh well! I did it for me and I like it, and that is what counts!

UPDATE - I wrote this post right after I dyed my hair. Now that it has been a few days, I must say that it is interesting the responses I get to what color it is. Turquoise is one of those colors that could go either way. Most people think it is green, and some say blue. Only two people have said that it looks teal. Kind of funny. ^o^

  1. Oh wow, this so suits you! It does look like green in the pictures but I could see it looking more turquoise in real life, either way it really works for you. The color really brings out your eyes and its amazing with your skin tone. Do you find yourself reaching for different clothes in the mornong now? I know when I first dyed my hair red it took a while to get use to wearing certain colors.(Although I'll wear pretty much anyrhing now.). Really love the new color!

    1. Thank you! And yes, I was interested in seeing how everything pairs differently now with the new hair! I am so happy with it! I haven't tried wearing green yet but I think it will look kind of funny if I do. (Maybe I will look like a Kokiri elf from Zelda?)

  2. This is such a lovely color! It's been awhile since I dyed my hair a bright color but this is one of the colors I could never get quite right. It was always much too blue. Awesome!

    1. Thank you! I've had the opposite problem... my hair turned out more green! I can't wait to experiment more with it as time goes on. :)
