What am I doing in Student Spotlight? (a.k.a. life is a web of unexpected events)

An interesting opportunity presented itself to me while I was on the bus around a month and a half ago. I was introduced to a woman named Kathleen McCoy by a mutual bus acquaintance, and it turns out that she was looking for students to interview for the Student Spotlight in UAA's Green & Gold news. Her and I talked during the bus ride and exchanged numbers. I didn't think much of it at the time, but kept in touch with her for the next few weeks as I saw her on the bus often. As I got to know her, I came to find that Kathleen was a very easy person to talk to, as well as empathetic and understanding. We talked about a wide variety of things; interesting details about our pasts and current lives, what it's like to go to UAA, and we even talked about death and what it means in our culture. I am very happy that I got to meet Kathleen, and she is an inspiration to me to keep doing what it is that I love to do, and also do my very best at it as well.
Fast forward a month or so. I'm really sick and scrambling to get my third project done for Advanced Drawing class. She calls me and leaves a voicemail with a request to do an official interview for the Student Spotlight that had since fallen to the back of my mind. We met up for breakfast and had a wonderful talk over bagels and coffee. A week later tiny bits of this conversation was published on the Green & Gold news website, along with an interview she had with my drawing instructor.
It's been an interesting experience, especially considering how random this opportunity was. If I hadn't been introduced to Kathleen on the bus, then I don't think this would have happened at all. To me, this is yet another example of how the minute choices in life can have very unexpected outcomes.
My feelings toward this experience led to a clash within myself. There are so many amazing art students at the university I go to, and I almost feel like I shouldn't be getting this kind of attention. However, I am also excited that I was able to have the chance to do something like this, because it was a first. This life was meant for living, and if I had turned Kathleen down I would probably be kicking myself right now. So, what's done is done, and I am happy with the result.
