OOTD: New patch!

Dress: Modcloth - XL
Jacket: Target - 1X
Tights: Cuddlduds - L
Shoes: Journey's - 10
Hat: Modcloth - One Size

If you happen to be wondering why I started listing the sizes of the clothes that I wear, it's because I wanted to communicate to anyone who wears larger clothes sizes like I do that there are plenty of awesome clothes out there that fits great! Just 10 years ago I remember being hard-pressed to find snazzy clothes in my size. There are so many more options available these days in terms of brands, and popular clothing stores offer a wider variety of clothing options for the "plus sized" crowd now. I don't really like using that term, since every time I do hear it, I think of Hagrid from Harry Potter. That's plus sized, right?

In all seriousness, everyone's bodies are so radically different in size and proportion. While we all may share things in common like tongues, limbs, fingers, and faces, they are positioned just slightly different enough that we can tell each other apart. A lot of my low self-esteem seemed to come from not thinking about my body in terms of its abilities, but rather by how much space it inhabits. It's been a long journey and though I still have my "ugh" days, I can't help but feel better when I don't compare myself to others. Instead, I relish the fact that I am getting this crazy chance to be a human during this time and place in the universe. I hope you are able to feel that way, too.

Finally ironed this patch onto my jean jacket! Heck yeah!

  1. The styling of this is so lovely. Kind of want to steal that patch, and those shoes. I appreciate that you included sizing by all the products. Personally, I range from an L to a 2XL or 14-18, and always find myself experimenting with sizing. It's nice to have actual human representations of sizing for once! xx

    1. I am in that same range, too! (Though I do have a skirt that is a good fitting size 20, but I got it from the thrift store so it's probably old sizing?) I am glad that you appreciate it!

  3. Have I mentioned yet how much I like that hat? It's just all kinds of adorable, it's like little animal ears without being too literal about it. I think I'm going to have to go see if modcloth still has these in stock, it's really cute! (And you just totally rock it with the colored hair.)
I think with photos it can be hard to really see what size anyone is but it is wonderful in blogging that there's such a wide representation of women. I'll just be creepy and say that you have such an amazing figure, you're like a perfect hourglass and from your photos you seem so in control and confident with your body. I think that spills over into your style because you really seem to have a strong sense of what looks good on you and what you like to wear which I think is really what style is. Or something, that was a rambling sentence. English fail Katie.

    1. They aren't selling those hats anymore! However, I have seen something very similar at OASAP, but it's a straw bowler and equally as cute!
I totally accept your creeps! I am actually very flattered. =3
(I also relate with your fails, haha)

  4. "A lot of my low self-esteem seemed to come from not thinking about my body in terms of its abilities, but rather by how much space it inhabits." So well-put, and I have similar struggles. It seems like a lot of us do. I agree with what Katie said, about blogging being awesome because of diversity, and how confident you seem in photos! I love the pictures where you're smiling down, because I think you're thinking something like, "Look at this cute ensemble I put together." It's probably more along the lines of "Come on, camera, go off already!" But still, it's inspiring <3

    1. Haha, you're totally right about me smiling down, except you left out the bit about me thinking, "Mwhaha they have no idea that I haven't bathed in a week!"

  6. Oh I love this! Your outfit is adorable and I love that you're sharing the sizes of the different pieces you wear. I think it's funny because when you see isolated pictures of one person, it's so hard to tell what size they are. I sometimes wonder if people know that I'm 5'11" and wear a size 12! I love that you're sharing and hope that the idea will catch on!

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Becca! I would have never guessed that you were so tall! You're right, it is very hard to tell in pictures what someone's size is. I think it's good to have some reference and someone to relate to in terms of body type. My only references used to be skinny models in magazines, but now there is a wide array of beautiful women of all shapes and sizes whose blogs I read. It's awesome!
