A sucky shade of sick.

Can't find me? That's because I'm hiding in bed.
As you may know from the post before last, I've got the sick again. It took a deep turn south as I had to excuse myself from class earlier than I would have liked so that I could go home. I have a tendency to push myself to carry on my schedule like usual, but last time I did that I ended up getting acute bronchitis. NOT THIS TIME! I am not going to take getting some decent rest for granted again anytime soon.

When I was in grade school, getting sick was like a magical key to a day of staying at home and playing video games and surfing the internet. Now that I'm an adult, it's the last thing that I want to happen. I think part of it is because it's easier to bounce back from being sick when you are young, but also because the responsibilities are piled really high and missing a day of work or school can mean not being able to pay a bill or missing out on an important assignment. It's not something I am particularly fond of when it comes to our culture, that we would value productivity way, way more than taking care of oneself and making sure you are getting the rest that you need.

I feel so lucky to have a guy like Cameron in my life. He took care of me every time I was sick since we've been together. He's read me a book to sleep, made me chicken noodle soup, and brought hot chocolate to me in bed. He even took Lilah to daycare for me as I stayed home and melted into the bed. Friday will mark the one year anniversary of us being together, and he is just as amazing as he was when we first started to talk to each other. (More about this later!)

Cameron wasn't the only one that cheered me up since I've been sick. When Lilah came home today from daycare, she brought a little card that said MOM on it, and inside was this:

Something about this just warms my heart! There are so many different things that you learn about parenting while you're raising a child. Each situation is rightly unique, but of the things I have learned, it's that there is a sense of joy when you receive a gift from your child, especially when they make it themselves. This will find a permanent spot on my keychain, and it's not coming off until it breaks or withers away!

  3. I'm sorry to hear you are ill, but it's so lovely to hear about your boyfriend and how he takes care of you. I find I always tend to place productivity above feeling better, but it's my boyfriend who always makes sure I rest and takes care of me when I refuse to take care of myself. Really happy for you, and Happy Anniversary!
