Beginning Metalsmithing: Project #2

I had a huge smile on my face by the end of my Metalsmithing class last Thursday, and it's because I was finally able to slip this ring onto my finger. I toiled on this one for a while, especially since I had to miss a day of class due to being sick. This also wasn't my first attempt at making a ring! I actually ruined the first one, but that's a story for a different day.

My favorite thing about this ring is that the design is versatile, and I can wear it upside down, or even turn it around completely to show off the silver part. It wasn't necessarily planned to be that way, but it's those little discoveries that make Metalsmithing class awesome!

I can't wait to make more rings! I have some different projects to work on, though. Fold forming is next, so stay tuned!

Objective: To make a ring with two layers of metal!
Time to Complete: 5 class periods (each period being 2.75 hours)
Materials: Silver and copper

  2. Awe, thank you Marlen! I was pretty nervous about making a ring that isn't completely connected, but with the right measurements it worked out!
I am taking Metalsmithing class to fulfill a 3D class requirement for my degree, but I am actually enjoying it a lot! The only way I will be able to make this stuff is by taking the class (because the studio is on campus), but if I am able to take the Intermediate class, I would love to sign up and make more stuff!
